Sanetha is a culture that would work on paper yet in practice almost all aspects of it have crumbled into itself. It was meant to be a bastion of democracy and scientific progress yet time has corrupted these noble ideals. Some would argue that such idealistic goals are impossible and that corners will always be cut.

Sanetha Government[]

Sanetha’s government is organized in a form similar to a democratic republic with two sets of representatives for the population. The first set is elected based on geographic areas within the cities. Those within the pre-determined sections of the country or city (depending on the level of government you are looking at) will vote for a specific person to represent them in matters relating to that area and theoretically for general laws to benefit the area as well. The other is elected based on the occupation of the persons meaning that the teachers get a representative, the scientists get one, etc. to also vote on laws to fairly make sure that no specific industry is harmed too much. The amount of representatives a specific area or occupation will gain is based upon the amount of population within the area or field. The candidates being selected and the number thereof is based on the amount of votes they received compared to the total.

Military matters are handled by a separate council of representatives elected by by the first and second set of representatives coming to an agreement by majority vote. Each member of the military council is in charge of a specific section of the military but they are expected to come to an agreement together for large decisions. In the event of a large scale war or other emergency the council is granted full control over the country but after the event requiring military control is over all members of the council must resign immediately and be replaced with another group.  [This is problematic!  What if they opt to 'end a war' and immediately are forced back into one?]

While this sounds like a perfectly credible government on paper, corruption has burrowed into its core. It is known to be a government where what truly matters is the amount of money you can slip into a politician’s pocket and other forms of influence you can give them. Most of the citizens have grown to accept this as a fact of life, meaning that the politicians who are at least obvious in their allegiances are the ones who get re-elected, such that the people know some measure of control in their lives.  Two-faced politicians often find their bribes, and their voter base have disappeared right before their eyes.

Sanetha Economy[]

The economy of Sanetha is largely based upon agriculture, medical supplies, and recreational drugs with it bringing in metals from Somiltrope and mercenaries from Brakton. Sanetha also acts as a land-based hub of trade for all the countries. This provides a constant route of trade between all the countries albeit at a much slower pace than what would be gained from going through Somiltrope.

Bribes are also highly valued within and without the country but they are part of the unofficial economy and is usually accounted for as “Extra-occupational gifts from anonymous donors” alongside any other things that may be given to those in charge.

Sanetha Religious Views[]

Sanetha is home to perhaps the most nuanced view of religion for a country. While officially the only religion that exists within the state is the World Turbine, small sections of Mechanists have temples within the country hidden away.  Such temples are often home only to one to three members on average. In almost every town there is at least one chapel for the World Turbine, usually created from fine marble ‘gifted’ by Cavinat to whatever city it is in but the gift is expected to be used for those purposes.

Of course, with all of the chemical uses throughout the country there are small cults that hold various beliefs but like the Mechanists they all hide their worship to the general public. Subjects of doctrine range from more extreme versions of the World Turbine or the Grand Design, to believing that all are one communal soul.

The cults are tolerated as long as they do not grow overly large and keep themselves out of the public eye.  As in most other ways, Sanetha is home to a great many fanatics and idealists.  For most, it’s an accepted part of life to realize that someone is going to be a part of a cult and may or may not want to sacrifice you to their house to appease a god.

Sanetha History[]

The land that the country of Sanetha now occupies was originally a lush jungle, filled by various tribes who each held their own unique beliefs. It was a separate entity all to itself compared to the rest of the world. The people in the jungle often shunned the outsider's technology, and killed the ones who attempted to overtake nature in the area.

Little is documented of the tribes outside of their existence, but what is known is that a group of refugees from Brakton and Somiltrope were on the run from their respective city states and launched an all out attack on the tribal people. Fire was usually the primary choice of weapon, but as they moved further and further in, some of the scientists from Brakton discovered the valuable properties of the plants beginning Sanetha’s history as a chemical based nation.

It had started off with Sanetha’s soldiers wounds being treated faster and their aggression being increased. While the tribes had always utilized the plants, Sanetha had the benefit of being able to implement them into technology, furthering their military progress.

Within months, a small section of the jungle had been overtaken but progress had halted beyond that. The original group that had arrived shrank from casualties but they pushed onward. Slowly, the marks of civilization started to take place as buildings were erected, and roads were paved leading back towards Cavinat, the nearest outpost of ‘civilized’ humanity.

More experiments were ran.  Immigrants started to pour into the new and unique city state. In the beginning, the government was almost non-existent, being more reminiscent of an anarchist communist state then a real government but after the issues plaguing a large unorganized city came up, the elders decided to take a lesson from their tribal enemies and adopt a democratic system in which people were elected to handle decisions relevant to their position.

The immediate increase in efficiency was noted, outside of the problems relating to trying to get information out to people about their new responsibilities of voting and how to handle it. The original tallies were accurate, most likely because people were more focused on expanding further into the jungle to get more land.

Chemical weaponry proved the most efficient and plentiful given their surroundings. Scientists were given relaxed standards and improved quality of life in exchange for helping develop ways to better battle the tribalists. Most of the developed technology focused on self-improvement but some of them furthered elemental properties being used as a weapon.

This proved to be more effective in their battles and forced assimilation but progress in the overall fighting was slow, what truly proved to be a turning point was the entry of a group of engineers from Edificium, their chainsaws proving quite effective in removing trees and other forms of foliage quickly. Clockwork technology was the turning point in Sanetha's quest for jungle dominance.

After a century, the entire jungle was levelled. Plants were grown on specific farms in the country, science progressed further as elections slowly began to become rigged to favor a specific individual over another. The original intent of hiring out the person who would be able to most competently perform the job slowly became replaced by the person with the most promising ties and a likeable face.

Relations[]

Brakton[]

Brakton is regarded first and foremost as unintellectual brutes who should be quelled and controlled rather then run rampant throughout the world by most citizens. They are respected for their militaristic force, but their progress in the scientific field has been noted and most citizens, at least those that pay attention to global politics are not fond of their distant neighbors.

Cavinat[]

The opinion of Cavinat will vary from region to region and person to person in Sanetha. Some people hold it as the greatest place on Abrun while others believe that all ties should be cut off in pursuit of nationalistic progress. The official opinion of Cavinat is that they are good allies and are quite respected throughout the country although this is mostly because Cavinat has paid off a good portion of Sanetha's officials.

Somiltrope[]

The opinion of Somiltrope is often regarded into that of awe and inspiration although there are individuals who would oppose the city for whatever reasons they would. The country tends to have peaceful and friendly relations with Somiltrope with active trade being encouraged, especially given how much the city has assisted in furthering technology as a whole in almost every field rather then just one.

Prominent Factions[]

Minerva Industries[]

While not specifically well-known, Minerva Industries has holdings in nearly every known country of the world, whether property, patents, military contracting, or some other unusual means.  While one would first suspect that this would make Minerva Industries a more Somiltrope affiliated entity, this is not so.  The founding technology was designed and utilized in Sanetha, and due to the capability of greasing palms and wheels, Minerva Industries has avoided gaining the repute that they would have in any other nation.  What the company plans to do with their lack of notoriety, however, is anyone's guess.

Social Views[]

Animalia[]

Any animalia who come here and live here are the most likely to figure out their true origin rather then that of their cultures beliefs, and Sanetha's treatment of them varies from region to region. Most of them consider Animalia to be non-citizens and therefore ineligible to vote but a few on the east side of Sanetha grant them full citizenry.

Clockwork[]

Most instances of clockwork technology are frowned upon, especially in the upper parts of Sanethean society. While there are a few small pockets of resistance still within the country, even acknowleding the existence of clockwork technology can harm ones reputation.

Destitute[]

If for whatever reason you join the class of the poor and powerless, your life in Sanetha is expected to be short, painful and not very entertaining. The primary occupation of the poor and downtrodden is to be the farmers in the fields producing the food that Sanetha is so famous for, after that they tend to be slaves or lab rats waiting to be experimented on. Usually only luck will pull someone from this status.

Golems[]

The intelligent ones are largely considered an oddity by most of society, but there are already extremist groups on both ends of the spectrum regarding them. There are groups who desire that all golems be enslaved or exterminated regardless of their actions or intelligence and there are groups who feel they should be equals with humans if not superior to them.

Almost all golems are considered non-human and non-citizen so they do not have any form of rights at the moment within Sanethean society.

Slavery[]

Almost all citizens of Sanetha have been affected by slavery one way or another. In most regions it is perfectly legal and acceptable within society although a few towns have gone so far as to outlaw the practice or even authorize the execution of known slavers. It varies from individual what the belief regarding the morality of slavery is but most citizens find a way to justify it in their minds.
